Nothing says warm and cozy like a nice cup of hot chocolate! Hot chocolate is the best dessert to have after a nice big family meal, the best beverage to drink while you watch a Christmas movie on Netflix; and most certainly tops the list when you think of the perfect winter night – sitting by the fireplace watching the snow fall outside your window sipping a cup of hot chocolate.
How would you normally make it in winter? You’d heat up some milk, stir in heaps of cocoa powder and add sugar to taste, right? Some people add whipped cream to the top, others add marshmallows while some throw in a little bit of cinnamon. This year, instead of sticking to the basics, why not up to your hot chocolate game? Here are 3 twists that you can add to really jazz it up.
Peanut butter hot chocolate
It is safe to say that peanut butter and chocolate always make a delicious combination, so why not add some peanut butter to your cup of hot chocolate? All you’re going to need is two to three tablespoons of powdered peanut butter. If you’d rather make your own peanut butter at home, that works well too! Once you’ve made a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate, just stir in two to three tablespoons of peanut butter to taste the goodness. It’s easy to make and everyone will love it! If you’re not into peanut butter, you can add some crushed hazelnuts; or a few spoons of Nutella for a delicious flavour.
Mocha spiced hot chocolate
This hot chocolate variation has to be the most sought after by every London catering company! And the best part about this mocha spice hot chocolate recipe is that you can change it up as per your tastes and preferences. To break it down, mocha means coffee and the spice here would be cinnamon. So, in a bowl, you mix together cocoa powder, sugar, coffee and some cinnamon with a hint of salt. Once your milk has boiled, add this mixture to the milk and watch as the beautiful aroma takes over your whole kitchen. Garnish with marshmallows or chocolate sauce. This one is perfect for those coffee lovers who go to Starbucks and order a mocha spiced latte!
White chocolate hot chocolate
As unconventional as this might sound, a white chocolate hot chocolate could be a really good way to make your hot chocolate stand out to the crowd! Basically, instead of cocoa powder, you will have to use white chocolate chips. Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave, add a hint of peppermint extract to them and add that into a cup of boiling milk. You can even add some pink or orange food colouring the really make the hot chocolate look beautiful. Add some whipped cream on top with some marshmallows and your hot chocolate will look Instagram ready!
