Industrial action by the University and College Union has received the overwhelming endorsement of Royal Holloway Student’s Union following a vote on the matter on Wednesday 21 February, with 77.6% of votes in favour.
A total of 718 votes were cast in a 24 hour period, with 557 (77.6%) in favour and 151 (21%) against. There were 10 abstentions (1.4%).
The SU had previously adopted a stance of sympathy, but not support, towards the strikes.
Following the motion, the SU resolves to encourage students to show solidarity with their lecturers by asking them not to attend classes or use services in operation on strike days.
Further, the SU encourages students to join staff on picket lines and direct frustration around strikes towards “those responsible for the proposed pensions changes, rather than lecturers themselves.”
