The 2011 season has already started with a number of successes for me. The year started with a Bronze medal at the BUCS Indoor Championships in February, which was to be followed by my first victory at the BUCS Outdoor Championships in May. After having finished second, third and third in my previous attempts at the Triple Jump it was a great feeling to win and stand at the top of the podium.
My training has also allowed me to do a bit of travelling this season. I have been on warm weather training camps to Tenerife, and then Cyprus with England athletics which were both great learning experiences. The primary aims that I have set myself for the summer season are to challenge for another medal at the National U23 Championships in June and to break into the top-10 of the Senior Triple Jump rankings having finished 15th in 2010, hopefully extending my pb from 15.26m to the region of 15.60m along the way.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Hyndman and the RHUL STARS Scheme for their support so far and I am very grateful for the financial support which has aided my training costs immensely. Also, I would also like to acknowledge the work of my strength and conditioning coach at Royal Holloway, Louis Howe, who has tirelessly drilled me into good shape this season. Onwards and upwards – the fun has only just begun and the season is still young with the whole summer to compete.
